Who Are the Friends of the Sayreville Public Library?

The mission of The Friends is to promote the mission and services of the Sayreville Public Library through advocacy as well as financial and programming support.

Our main source of revenue is our book sales. The books we sell come primarily from donations from Sayreville’s residents. These occur two times a year and at Sayreville Day.

The Friends help the library with special events. The most rewarding experiences are the Annual School Library Fairs. Students that do not have a library card are encouraged to sign up for one in advance. On the day of the Fair each student is presented with their new card and a new book. All of the students are given information about the Summer Reading Program. In the years that we have done these Fairs, the library has reported a dramatic increase in participation in the Summer Reading Program.

Over the years The Friends have helped the library financially. In the past we have provided Face Painting at the Summer Reading Club Kick-Off Party. We have purchased DVDs for the Children’s Collection. Our most visible purchase to date has been the large television screen in the newly remodeled library lobby.

Our group has hosted various adult programs over the years. We have had some Authors Nights which featured local authors. Our most popular event was with Jill Davis, author of Girls Poker Night. The author read from her book and answered questions from the audience.
