The books we sell come primarily from donations from Sayreville’s residents. These occur two times a year and at Sayreville Day.

The Friends help the library with special events. The most rewarding experiences are the Annual School Library Fairs. Students that do not have a library card are encouraged to sign up for one in advance. On the day of the Fair each student is presented with their new card and a new book. All of the students are given information about the Summer Reading Program. In the years that we have done these Fairs, the library has reported a dramatic increase in participation in the Summer Reading Program.

Over the years The Friends have helped the library financially. In the past we have provided Face Painting at the Summer Reading Club Kick-Off Party. We have purchased DVDs for the Children’s Collection. Our most visible purchase to date has been the large television screen in the newly remodeled library lobby.

Our group has hosted various adult programs over the years. We have had some Authors Nights which featured local authors. Our most popular event was with Jill Davis, author of Girls Poker Night. The author read from her book and answered questions from the audience.Friends of the Sayreville Public Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08265739479226677179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3175321931489151106.post-8121422232584053742009-06-12T13:56:00.002-04:002009-06-12T13:58:50.767-04:00Adopt A BookBuy a book to celebrate an important event in someone's life-- a birth, a graduation, a birthday, retirement, a Confirmation, a wedding, or anything else you can think of. Our first two sales are in the library conference room. They are every January and June. Our third sale is at Sayreville Day in Kennedy Park. Customers are given a bag and they can fill them for $8! The books we sell come from generous donations from the public as well as some library discards. Proceeds from sales are given to the Sayreville Public Library to fund the children’s summer reading program, library programs and workshops, and purchases not covered within the annual budget. Your donations and purchases help aid us in our quest to provide the citizens of Sayreville with outstanding public service.

How to Donate

While the Sayreville Public Library and the Friends of the Library appreciate the kindness of those willing to donate material, the library’s lack of storage prevents all donations from being accepted. Items will only be accepted when a book sale is publicly announced via local newspapers, local channel advertisements, and library advertisements. This is generally three weeks before the sale. Donations can be placed in the Friends donation mailbox which is located in the library lobby.
